As soon as you wake up, do not jump up, lay there for a while and focus on remembering your dreams. Write down the dreams in a journal for fast recall. Doing this will help with the lucid dreaming process. The first technique to master is known as a reality check. While it may sound foolish, you need to train your waking body so that the training spills over in your sleep state. If you are unfamiliar with the term, a lucid dream is one in which you are aware that you are dreaming. In this context, lucid means aware or conscious. The degree of lucidity of any dream depends on the stability of the dream itself, how much of the dream can be recalled upon awakening and most importantly, the control that one can exert over the events of the dream. It is this last point which is by all accounts the most astounding quality of a lucid dream, given that you are actually able to identify the fact that you're busy having a dream. Lucid dreaming allows you to take control of the lucid dream and realize that within the dream there are no limits to where your imagination can take you. Take a moment to imagine this. Your dream feels and looks like reality, you have most or all your senses, the only difference is that you know you are in fact sleeping. You are aware that no matter what happens, you are completely safe. You cannot die, become injured, or mess up your real life in a Lucid Dream. You can dig yourself into all sorts of imagined trouble and fantastic adventures since there are no rules or limits to your dreaming world or physical powers. This is, for all practical purposes, you inborn virtual reality world and you make up all the rules. The depth of realism and imagination is not hemmed in by a budget or computer graphics. These are things like trying to walk through a wall or fly away. If you can make yourself do these things then you know you obviously aren't experiencing real life and must be dreaming in a lucid state. If you continue to do these reality checks frequently you will help your mind enter a lucid dreaming state. The second technique is defined as MILD. The state where you realise that you are falling asleep and you stop yourself. It helps in dream recognition and dream interpretations. The best way when using this technique is to set your alarm so that you have around five hours sleep. When your alarm goes off, lay awake for one hour trying to recall all the details of the dream which you saw in the last five hours. Then slowly go back to sleep again constantly affirming to your mind that you will continue with the same dream induce dreaming. This is your REM sleep stage and thus you must take full advantage of it for lucidly dreaming.
