We think of them as a mysterious happening which we do not fully understand, much less have the ability to control. However, these nightly journeys made by our subconscious are something which we can indeed take control of. Thanks to a technique known as lucid dreaming, dream control is an ability which is well within our reach.
What does this term “lucid dreaming” really mean and in what way does it happen, and what are the benefits to this? Are people really able to obtain control, and make their nightly travels in the dreaming arena into an ongoing, never ending adventure? Stay tuned to this article for your answers of these often asked questions on the topic of controlling dreams.
What does Dream Control Mean?
When we use lucid dreaming, we can use the ability of dream control. Lucid dreaming begins with the awareness that you are dreaming while you are in the middle of a dream. Once you know that you are actually dreaming, you can start deciding how the events of your dream will unfold.
Those who suffer from nightmares, especially recurring ones can get relief from these bad dreams by using dream control. Once they have learned this simple but powerful skill, these people can finally get the good night’s rest they so badly need.
Common Techniques For Inducing Lucid Dreaming
Binaural audio is a new technology which has been proven effective in helping people to reach a lucid dreaming state. Binaural audio involves listening to two different frequencies simultaneously. When the listener hears these two frequencies, they begin to relax and their brainwaves synchronize with each other, which induces the REM sleep state which is needed for lucid dreaming and dream control.
Meditation and self hypnosis used to be the most used methods to bring about the lucid dreaming, before the new technology of the binaural waves came upon us. But these 2 methods were not always highly effective, as people said they had no success at reaching the state called for, for dream control.
Many additional techniques, since then, have been developed as methods for inducing lucid dreaming by those experts in both fields of psychology and science. And regardless of any of the earlier methods used the basic purpose still remains the same. To train the mind while in the state of sleep to be aware of being in a dream. The state needed to begin lucid dreaming.
To obtain this, it is essential to begin while awake and the key is to remember to say something or do something while dreaming to trigger recognition that is necessary for the mind to be aware and allow us the ability to control the activities in our dreams.
It's as simple a thing as reminding yourself while you are awake and before going to sleep you'll be dreaming and in that dream you'll remember to say or do something, something specific, at which time you will know that you are dreaming.
This is considered as a mnemonic or mild process of bringing on lucid dreaming, and was founded by Dr. Stephen LaBerge (a scientist). Through this your mind becomes in total control of what is happening as you dream, this means you will be in no way harmed because it is only in your mind and of that you are in control of.
There is another way of reaching lucid dreaming and it involves making a dream journal or diary, do this by keeping a pen or pencil and a notebook of some kind by your bed so that you can jot down any information that you are able to recall in the moments right after you wake up. By doing this for several nights, you will begin to see that you are able to recall the facts you have jotted down and dream something similar but this time you will start to exert control over the events.
Using dream control can allow you to banish your nightmares and have truly incredible adventures in your dreams. Anything you can imagine is possible when you are lucid dreaming.
However, keep in mind that you can have too much of a good thing, even dream control. Experts in the field have said that our dreams can be a way of our subconscious minds trying to tell us something important. It’s important to give yourself a few nights off from lucid dreaming now and then, as amazing of an experience as discovering dream control can be.
