Dream Control Tactics
We tend to operate under the assumption that our dreams are something entirely out of our hands. We think of them as a mysterious happening which we do not fully understand, much less have the ability to control. However, these nightly journeys made by our subconscious are something which we can indeed take control of. Thanks to a technique known as lucid dreaming, dream control is an ability which is well within our reach.
Just what is lucid dreaming, exactly? Can anyone gain the ability of dream control? What is there to be gained by lucid dreaming? Read on for a look at dream control and how it can be helpful to you.
What exactly is meant by dream control?
Dream control, usually known as lucid dreaming means that you are totally aware when asleep that you are dreaming. You can control everything that is happening and can choose the outcome of everything that happens.
People, that suffer from bad dreams on a regular basis, can benefit from this greatly, to get control over their sleep and finally have a peaceful night's sleep.
Common Techniques For Inducing Lucid Dreaming
A very successful way to reach lucid dreaming uses binaural audio, with this you listen to 2 different types of frequencies simultaneously, for the purpose of altering the brain waves, to bring on a relaxed stage, and also the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep, which is where the lucid dreaming occurs.
Self-hypnosis and meditation were the methods used to induce lucid dreaming before binaural audio recordings became available on DVD and CD formats. Self hypnosis and meditation both work to achieve lucid dreaming, but they can take a while to master, making them not necessarily the best choice if you’d like to start lucid dreaming sooner rather than later.
There are a number of other techniques which have been used by experts to help people achieve dream control. All of these techniques work towards the goal of training the mind to understand that they are dreaming so that they can enter a state of lucid dreaming.
To achieve this state of dreaming, we must begin before we go to sleep. To trigger recognition is the key to doing or saying something while in a dream. In the mind, this is necessary and permits us the control of the situation in any dream.
Much of the time it's a matter of telling yourself your going to sleep and start to dream and will remember to say or do something specific in that dream. With this, instantly you will know you are dreaming.
Dr. Stephen LaBerge discovered this method of dream control, which is considered mnemonic or mild way of bringing on lucid dreams. This method allows your mind to be in total control of what is going on in the dream, this also means that nothing will harm you, because it is just in your mind, and the only limits you have is your ability to imagine.
Keeping a dream diary is a good way to train yourself to use dream control. Keep a notebook and pen by your bedside so that when you awake from a dream you can write down anything and everything which you remember. After keeping your dream journal for a few week, you may find yourself having a dream which you have written down over again – except this time, you’ll be in the director’s chair for the experience!
With dream control you can go anywhere, do anything and see anyone that you can imagine. There are no limits to what you can do when you are lucid dreaming.
One word of caution, however. There is such a thing as too much lucid dreaming. Psychologists and other experts tell us that your dreams are sometimes your subconscious mind’s way of telling you some important things. So give yourself some time off to have naturally occurring dreams in between your incredible lucid dreaming experiences.
