Conscious Dreaming Is Fun!
If you are aware you are dreaming while you are asleep, you are having lucid dreams. This is also referred to as conscious dreaming. Imagine you are in a dream and realize you are dreaming. When you are in this state, you can do just about anything you want in your dream.
This might sound almost unbelievable, but conscious dreaming is an ability you already have and can learn to harness with some practice. There are even some techniques which have been proven to produce lucid dreams that you can use.
The first thing you should do is to figure out what your goals are in learning conscious dreaming. Do you hope to have more enjoyment from your dreams, or is conscious dreaming a vehicle for you to achieve some of your other life goals?
Once you have a clear idea of your goals, you are ready to start practicing the techniques which lead to conscious dreaming. The first step for many is dream recall, which involves training yourself to remember you dreams in detail.
When you start to consciously dream, you have to recall the details of all the dreams you have, each night. One of the most common ways to do this is to keep a diary by your bedside table with a pen or pencil. Each morning, first thing, is to enter details of your dreams, all of the details that you can remember. The longer you wait to do this, the less you will remember. So this is of the up most importance, so the details are as accurate as they can be.
This a powerful technique for training yourself in the skill of dream recall. When you are able to recall your dreams, it becomes easier to recognize a dream while it is in progress. In fact, a lot of people find that before long, they will start to “wake up” in the middle of their dreams, beginning to have lucid dreams.
In addition to a diary, there is also hypnosis, also a popular method. Hypnosis can help achieve the state of mentality needed to achieve conscious dreaming. It is used to help people remember things past or present that have been forgotten, even dream details. Now you will be ready for conscious dreaming.
When you first start lucid dreaming, you might awaken suddenly from them; this is a pretty common occurrence. To get back into these dreams, focus on the details of the dream as you return to sleep.
Another method which many find useful for inducing conscious dreaming is to wake up a few hours earlier than normal. Simply set your alarm about two hours early and then go back to bed after awakening. In these last few hours before you are accustomed to waking up, it is much more common to have lucid dreams. These dreams can be hard to tell from simply laying awake and daydreaming! This is a good way to begin conscious dreaming.
Figure out your sleep patterns, as this will help you to figure out when the best times for you to have conscious dreaming experiences are. Don’t short yourself on sleep too much though; being sleep deprived makes it harder to have lucid dreams.
It does not take long to learn the art of consciously controlling your dreams. It will not take years of study and practice as some may think. Just take some time to practice and work at it and you will be a conscious dreamer in no time.
